Our Exclusive Interview with Michael Tolcher!
The Australian fans are only just discovering your music - how would you describe your music to them?
"it grooves, it's heartfelt, it rocks, and it's shower...sing-a-long stuff"
What was the inspiration for your first single "Mission Responsible", and what made "Mission Responsible" stand out from your other tracks as your choice for the first single?
"'Mission' came from a time period when I was transitioning from being a 'pushed' to being a 'pusher'...I decided to create my own life, instead of following the old blueprint. I'm saying 'goodbye' to the old me...its about self emergence.
its been my bread and butter since the day I wrote it...its been the last song of my set since 1999....I guess its always been my 'single'"
We know this is a hard question for any artist, but what are your favourite tracks on this album, or which tracks turned out better than you expected?
"I like 1 thru 12 the best :>
The Australian fans might not know that you were training for the Olympics, until a knee injury ended your career. How does one go from athlete to "rock star"?
"clarifying: to be in the Olympics was my dream at the time... I was running in college, and 'retired' after chronic foot injuries... I never made it to the trials or anything... just like I haven't won a grammy yet.
they are similar lifestyles... only playing music is much less painful."
You're currently supporting Hanson on their Underneath tour. What has it been like touring with them, and how have the Hanson fans reacted to your music?
"touring with Hanson is terrific.... they're an awesome band, I 'go' to their show every night... like a fan."
their fans have welcomed me... we just have a big party during my set... the love is mutual."
Finally, are there any plans to release an album and/or tour here in Australia in the future? We'd love to see you!!
"My plan is to spend some weeks there in 2005...play some music, chase some kangaroos, drink some brews, you know...get to know each other...I hear its beautiful, and you guys speak funny english!!"
